Folky, simple, beautiful. I find myself thinking of butterflies and morning sunbeams entering through a large window. Wisps of steam from that cup of tea sitting by a windowsill. Her voice is sombre, powerful and calming. This was one of those albums you heard a snippet of, saved for another day and had your mind blown by when you actually chose to hear it. Her sound is so incredibly intimate, like she’s performing just for you, sitting atop a hill in your mind.
Deeply introspective, she bares her heart out on this album. Clean, acoustic sound, it truly is something special.
My Favourites from the album
The Bug Collector - Entrancing is the only word I can use to describe this song. She plucks away at her guitar and transports you into her room, painting pictures with her words. Harmonies, chimes, shakers and subtle horns embellish her voice in a sublime way. We are but spectators in her world.
Drinking Song - This is what I would call a ‘day-ender’. The soundtrack to the evening. A perfect way to end both the album and a long day; sit in a comfortable chair and think.
Listening to this album reminded me so much of Bon Iver. If you did like this sound, check out
Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago
Ben Howard - Every Kingdom
