Another one of those albums that both my dad and I can listen to together, its rock with a bluegrass feel. An album with an undoubtedly eccentric sound, it leans into a sublime blend of folk, blues and psychedelia. The eccentricity supported by the lyrics, some of which are a little out there even for my taste but a stellar album nonetheless. The overall tone of the album is self reflective to say the least; tracks like Roots and Lonely Time Medicine especially, the latter being almost repentant.

The album delves into ideas of consciousness and spirituality, painting abstract ideas through its sound, its lyrics like a boat drifting along the proverbial stream. What first seem as half thoughts and idiosyncrasies culminate into a satisfying gestalt by the time the album ends.

My picks off the album.

  1. Tall Grass - An undeniably feel-good song, it just makes me smile. The lyrics are both relatable as well amusingly contradictory to the overall tone of the song; yet it is a wonderfully satisfying listening experience

  2. Drama In The City - Fast paced and upbeat, the pounding bass drum keeps you locked into the track. I love the lyrics, in particular “We ain’t harboring fear no more, it is love we are choosing / We ain’t celebrating war, we are enacting solutions / This is a revolution, this is our evolution” A call to action with a message of love and peace, quite fantastic.
