The Bathroom Darkroom Project

Shooting film sustainably. It’s as simple as that.

As photographers, we wish to push our craft and our knowledge, but we also have a responsibility as people to take care of the environment around us. I have not been shooting film very long, but I have fallen very deeply in love with the way it forces me to think about my photography...and I would hate to see it go.

Developing film in commercial chemistry is not sustainable. Pouring untreated chemicals like ammonia, formaldehyde or some ungodly combination of both, down the drain should hurt your conscience.

In my mind, embracing alternative processes is the way forward for analogue photography. Caffenol is the way to maintain the relevance of film.  I am aware that caffenol is not completely green as  silver-halide is a byproduct, however it is far better for the environment than anything that comes in a bottle or a packet.

The Bathroom Darkroom Project is both my journey in embracing caffenol, alternative process and a completely sustainably film shooting process from development to final print, as well as a resource to anyone who wishes to shoot and develop film in a responsible way.
